Science is the acquisition of reliable but not infallible knowledge of the real world including explanation of the phenomenon while superstition is an irrational belief that an object,action or circumstance not logically related to a course of events  influences its outcome.Many superstitious beliefs are existing around us.Not to sleep with your head towards north, don't go near a peepal tree in the night, don't cut the nails at night, breaking mirror brings seven years bad luck, bath after a funeral ceremony, practice of sati,lizard falling on human is bad luck, hanging lemon and seven chillies, cats crossing your path..... There is a scientific evidence behind it.

Reasons towards superstitions

• Mass illiteracy 
•It often are a coping mechanism that help people manage with the unknown of life and situations out of control.
•Humans, when unable to rule out a theory prefer to take the safer route and make sure that do not do something which can later lead to some adversity, harm, or injury.
•Those who know and know that they know are always less likely to be superstitious about things they do know.

Role of a science teacher in eradicating superstitions


Science teacher teach children about how science makes the world work. They create a scientific evidence in classroom environment. Teacher must encourage active questioning and identification of issues and answers by students. Sound teaching begins with questions and phenomenon that familiar to students rather than abstractions. Teacher should encourage the students to read the scientific books.

                      Science teaches us to think in a logical way. Superstitions can be eradicate through evidence. Science is the one of the best tools for eradication.
